SPRING/SUMMER 2000 launches the new millennium and brings along with it a new evolution in thinking about women's clothing. Once again, women are redefining themselves. We're moving away from neutral color and body skimming menswear shapes. Now we've learned to celebrate our femininity with vibrant color, billowy volume and flow.

Color is back...and just in time for spring! After a dingy, grey winter, designers are embracing color with new fervor. The two prevalent approaches: soft, ethereal hues or bright energetic colors. Either way looks fresh.

A new approach to prints focuses on textural and tone-on-tone prints. Shimmer, nacre, pearlized and reflective treatments introduce new and interesting ways to think about print. Dip dyes, tie dyes and placement prints are challenging traditional allover treatments.

The "new volume" we spoke of last season has taken hold, focusing on the space between the body and the fabric. Clothing has become almost architectural through the creative use of draping, drawstrings and coated fabrics.

Flowing and feminine are the most important looks this season. Pretty blouses, voluminous skirts and dresses will make up most wardrobes. Simple A-shapes in crisp fabrics look newest with blouson hemlines. Alternatives are layers of sheer or peachskin microfiber fabrics. peasant blouses in crinkle, lace, or crisp poplin with capped, puffed and drawstring sleeves looked surprisingly modern. Look to Claire Mc Cardell and Madeleine Vionnet for inspiration.

Hamil's Spring/Summer 2000 collection offers something for every type of woman in all her favorite environments. From the sea, onto shore, exploring nature, floating into the air and soaring through space, there is no environment that woman has not conquered and made her own...
